Bangladesh Institute of Marine Technology ( BIMT ) is a government level institute established in 1958 to meet the demand of local and overseas manpower in marine vessel operation, maintenance and fabrication of local and sea going ships. Bangladesh Institute of Marine Technology is playing a vital role in the development and improvement of water transport services of Bangladesh. This Institute is running two Diploma in Engineering courses along with four other trade courses related to Marine technology in order to develop skilled manpower in the water transport sector. The trainees are being employed both in inland water transport sector and in overseas employment. Duration of the Diploma in Engineering Courses are 4 years now.  The other trade courses are of two years duration each. Employment rate of the passed out graduates from BIMT is more than 90% both locally and in overseas employment.
